Thiruvananthapuram, May 7: Congress Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor on Monday praised Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan for paying tribute to Tipu Sultan on his death anniversary on May 4. Tharoor tweeted, “One thing i personally know about @imranKhanPTI is that his interest in the shared history of the Indian subcontinent is genuine & far-reaching. He read; he cares. Khan on May 4, paid tribute to ruler of the erstwhile Mysore Kingdom on his death anniversary. Imran Khan's Tweet:

It is not the first time Khan had praised Sultan. Earlier in February during the joint sitting of the parliament, lauded Sultan's gallantry. The joint sitting was convened in the wake of India-Pakistan tensions after the Pulwama attack. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is opposing the celebrations of the birth anniversary of the Mysore ruler since 2015, when the then Siddaramaiah government decided that the state would celebrate the birth anniversary of Tipu Sultan.
