A harrowing video has surfaced from Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district, capturing the moment a 50-year-old man was launched nearly 50 feet into the air by a ferocious storm on Wednesday. The incident occurred as a wave of extreme weather swept through the state, claiming at least 104 lives and causing widespread destruction across multiple districts. The victim, identified as Nanhe Mian, an e-rickshaw driver from Bamiyana village, was at a local wedding hall when the wind speeds intensified. In an attempt to secure a large tin shed that began rattling violently, Mian grabbed onto a rope tied to the structure. However, a powerful gust-estimated by officials to have exceeded 100 kmph-uprooted the entire roof, lifting both the metal sheet and Mian high into the sky.

Bystander footage shows Mian clinging to the roof as it somersaults through the air before he is thrown into a neighboring field. Despite the terrifying height of the fall, he miraculously survived the ordeal. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he is being treated for multiple fractures in his hand and leg. "The wind was so strong I thought the shed would blow away if I didn't hold it," Mian recounted from his hospital bed. "Suddenly, I was in the air. I didn’t even realize where I fell until it was over." The Bareilly incident has become the face of a broader natural disaster currently gripping Uttar Pradesh. The state Relief Commissioner’s office confirmed on Thursday that the death toll from the recent spell of storms, lightning, and heavy rain has reached 104. While Bareilly reported at least four fatalities, including a 12-year-old girl crushed by a falling tree, the highest casualties were recorded in Prayagraj (21), Mirzapur (19), and Bhadohi (14). Most deaths were attributed to lightning strikes, wall collapses, and falling debris. Storms Kill at Least 96 in India's Uttar Pradesh State.

Meteorologists from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) explained that the unusual intensity of the storm was caused by a clash between hot, dry air masses from the west and moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal, supercharged by an active Western Disturbance. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed his condolences and directed district magistrates to ensure that financial assistance reaches the families of the deceased within 24 hours. Relief operations are currently underway to restore power lines and clear uprooted trees that have paralyzed traffic in several rural areas.
