Road connectivity in North Sikkim faced a major setback on Saturday night after a Bailey Bridge over the Phee Khola at Phidang in Dzongu was completely washed away. The collapse, triggered by intense and continuous rainfall in the region, has entirely cut off the vital Phidang-Sankalang transport route. The incident occurred late at night as water levels in the mountain stream rose rapidly, exerting immense pressure on the bridge's foundation. Local authorities confirmed that no casualties or injuries were reported at the time of the collapse, though the structural failure has immediately halted all vehicular movement through the area.

The Phidang–Sankalang route serves as a primary logistical artery for the remote Dzongu region in the Mangan district. The loss of the bridge has effectively isolated multiple villages, disrupting the daily commute of residents and cutting off access to essential services and emergency medical facilities.
