Dehradun, December 27: Normal life in Uttarakhand was badly affected after severe cold wave conditions gripped the state with temperature plummeting in almost all the districts. According to weather department, most places in the hill state are likely to receive rainfall and snowfall on January 1 and 2. Meanwhile, mountains around Kedarnath Temple in Uttarakhand were covered with a sheet of snow after heavy snowfall in the region. As the hill state reeled under severe cold waves conditions, all schools in Haridwar were shut on December 27. In its weather bulletin, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the cold wave conditions would continue till the end of the year in many states in north India. Delhi is already in the midst of the longest cold wave in December seen in 22 years with the minimum temperature of 4.2 degrees Celsius and maximum temperature of 13.4 degrees Celsius on Friday.

The IMD said cold day to severe cold day conditions in many pockets are very likely to continue till December 31 over Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi and Uttar Pradesh and in Rajasthan. Since December 13, the temperature in the northern states have dipped to minus and respite is likely only after New Year.
