Jaipur, February 5: The Rajasthan police have arrested a 23-year-old woman and three others for the premeditated murder of her husband, which was initially reported as a hit-and-run accident. The victim, identified as 25-year-old Ashish Kumar, was killed on January 30 while out for a post-dinner walk. Authorities revealed that the plot was orchestrated by his wife, Anju, who allegedly sought to end the marriage and reunite with her lover.

The case has drawn national attention, with local media labeling it "Honeymoon Murder 2.0" due to its similarities to the high-profile Raja Raghuvanshi case in Meghalaya last year. In both instances, a newlywed spouse is accused of leading their partner to a remote location to be executed by hired accomplices or lovers while maintaining a facade of grief for investigators. Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder Case: Sonam Hired Killers To Get Rid of Her Husband, One of the Accused Attended Raja Raghuvanshi’s Funeral; Shocking Details Emerge.

The incident was first reported on January 31, when Ashish’s family informed police that he had been struck by an unidentified vehicle while walking with Anju. However, Superintendent of Police Amrita Duhan stated that forensic evidence at the scene did not support a vehicular impact. There were no tire marks, glass fragments, or signs of a high-speed collision consistent with a hit-and-run.

Suspicion shifted toward Anju after she provided inconsistent statements during questioning. Investigators noted that she frequently changed her account of the event and claimed to have lost consciousness, a detail that clashed with the timeline of her informing the family about the "accident." Bihar Shocker: Woman Kills Husband Just 45 Days After Wedding in Aurangabad, Wanted to Marry Uncle; Arrested.

According to the police investigation, Anju and Ashish had been married for only three months, but Anju was reportedly unhappy and had reconnected with her alleged boyfriend, Sanjay (also known as Sanju). After briefly living at her parental home, she returned to Ashish with a plan to eliminate him.

On the night of the murder, Anju allegedly signaled Sanjay and two accomplices, Rohit and Badal, who were hiding in nearby bushes. As the couple reached a deserted stretch of road, the men attacked Ashish with sticks. When the initial blows failed to kill him, they allegedly strangled him to death.

To further misguide the police, Anju reportedly handed her jewelry and Ashish’s phone to the attackers to frame the incident as a robbery gone wrong. However, the post-mortem report confirmed signs of manual strangulation and blunt force trauma, leading to the registration of a murder case.

"The accused planned the murder to look like a tragic accident, but the physical evidence at the spot told a different story," said SP Amrita Duhan. All four suspects, Anju, Sanjay, Rohit, and Badal, are currently in police custody. They face charges under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for murder and criminal conspiracy.
