New Delhi, March 24: Senior Congress leader and former party president Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in the national capital today, March 24, following complaints of chest-related discomfort. According to hospital sources, the 79-year-old leader is currently under the care of a specialised medical team led by Dr Anup Basu. Her daughter and Congress General Secretary, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, is present at the facility to monitor her recovery.
The medical bulletin released by the hospital indicates that Sonia Gandhi’s condition is "stable". She is undergoing a series of routine evaluations to determine the exact cause of the chest discomfort. Doctors have placed her under observation to ensure that her vitals remain steady while the necessary diagnostic tests are completed. ‘Bulldozer on MGNREGA’: Sonia Gandhi Attacks PM Narendra Modi-Led Government Over G RAM G Bill, Says ‘It Is Assault on Rural Livelihoods’ (Watch Video).
History of Respiratory Issues
This is the second time in recent months that the veteran politician has required hospital care for respiratory concerns. In January, Sonia Gandhi was admitted to the same facility after experiencing significant breathing difficulties. At that time, Dr Ajay Swaroop, Chairman of the hospital, confirmed that her pre-existing bronchial asthma had been aggravated. The medical team attributed that flare-up to a combination of severe winter temperatures and high levels of environmental pollution in Delhi.
Despite her recurring health challenges, Gandhi has remained active in the political sphere, attending key strategy meetings for the Congress party. While the party has not issued an official statement regarding the duration of her current stay, sources suggest she will remain in the hospital for at least another 24 to 48 hours for further monitoring.
