Nandyal, May 1: Member of Parliament (MP) from Nandyal and Jana Sena Party candidate for the same Lok Sabha Constituency S.P.Y Reddy died at a private hospital in Hyderabad on Tuesday night. Reddy was 69 and had been ailing for some time. He was admitted to hospital on April 3 for a lung ailment. After he was provided ventilator support, he recovered, but developed complications and was shifted back to ICU. Reddy was elected as a member of parliament from Nandyal in 2004 and 2009 as an Indian National Congress candidate. In 2014 general elections, he contested as YSR Congress nominee, but switched into the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) soon after the election. As TDP denied ticket to him in 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, Reddy joined Pawan Kalyan's JSP and fought April 11 elections while being in the hospital.

Born on June 4, 1950, in Andhra Pradesh's Kadapa, Reddy persued BE (Mechanical) from Regional Engineering College from Warangal and began his career at Bhaba Atomic Research Centre before setting up his own company. He was the founder of Nandi Group of Companies. He began his political career with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and unsuccessfully contested from Nandyal in 1991 Lok Sabha Elections.
