Mumbai, April 29: In a shocking incident in Gujarat, a businessman allegedly tried to end his life by committing suicide after being harassed by loan sharks. The incident took place on Thursday, April 25, when Kapil Vasoya (39) allegedly attempted suicide. The agri-produce businessman from Talal in Gir Somnath has named 19 money lenders in his FIR lodged with Sarkhej police.

In his complaint, Vasoya said he took loans of Rs 3 crore from various moneylenders with monthly interest ranging from 2% to 10%. Businessman Suffers Loss After Cyclone Tauktae

Vasoya told cops that he has been selling mango pulp since 2017. According to the complaint, Vasoya entered into contracts with various farmers when the mango trees flowered and collected stocks of ripened fruit from them. He also told cops that he enjoyed good profits initially, with his turnover being Rs 5 to 7 crore. However, things changed in May 2021 when Cyclone Tauktae hit.

Vasoya Borrowed Money from 19 Lenders

The cyclone caused Vasoya to suffer huge losses, which led to him borrowing money for his business. As per his complaint, Vasoya borrowed money from 19 moneylenders, who continued to harass him even after he repaid the full amount. Soon after Vasoya lost consciousness, he was rushed to a private hospital, where he regained consciousness and gave his statement to the police. Acting on his statement, the police registered a case against the 1 accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Gujarat Money Lenders Act.
