Gurdaspur, July 2: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Sunny Deol on Tuesday issued a statement after facing flak for appointing a representative to take care of his Gurdaspur Lok Sabha constituency in his absence. Sunny Deol termed the entire controversy as unfortunate. The actor-turned-politician said, “Extremely unfortunate to see a controversy being created out of nothing at all.” Sunny Deol, BJP Lawmaker From Gurdaspur, May Lose His Seat Over Campaign Overspending.

Deol added that he had appointed a personal assistant (PA) to represent my office in Gurdaspur. “This appointment has been made to ensure smooth flow of work whenever I am out of Gurdaspur to attend the parliament or travelling for work,” stated Deol. The BJP MP also said that his entire party leadership in the constituency would also look after the development work.

Sunny Deol's statement:

The actor-turned-politician on Monday appointed Gurpreet Singh Palheri as his "representative" to take care of his Gurdaspur Lok Sabha constituency whenever he is not there. Deol, on his letterhead, declared Palheri as his "representative" and "authorised" him to attend meetings and follow important matters pertaining to his parliamentary constituency.

The Congress slammed the Gurdaspur MP for appointing Palheri as his representative. The grand old party termed the move a "betrayal" with the voters of Gurdaspur. However, the Congress government in Punjab provided Palheri security and official vehicle.
