The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a petition filed by six NEET-UG candidates who allege significant discrepancies between the answers they marked during the examination and the copies of the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheets uploaded by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The matter was mentioned before a bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi, and Justice V. Mohana, with the petitioners seeking an urgent hearing ahead of the commencement of the centralised counselling process.

Alleged Mismatch in Scores and Responses

Appearing for the petitioners, the counsel informed the bench that the case involves six high-performing students who secured scores exceeding 600 and 650 marks. However, the candidates maintain that the OMR sheets published by the NTA do not reflect the actual choices they made inside the examination hall. NEET-UG 2026 Re-Exam: NTA Denies Claims of OMR Sheet Replacement for Candidate Avaneesh Srivastava With Ajeet Singh.

The legal counsel noted that the affected students attempted to address the issue directly by sending multiple emails to the testing agency and visiting its office in person, but received no response or resolution. Consequently, the petitioners approached the apex court seeking judicial intervention to safeguard their academic futures.

Background of the NEET-UG 2026 Examination

The current legal challenge follows a turbulent testing cycle for NEET-UG 2026. The national medical entrance examination was originally conducted on May 3, but was subsequently cancelled by authorities following a widespread paper leak. The NTA re-conducted the examination nationwide on June 21. Taking note of the urgency surrounding admissions and the impending counselling schedules, the bench agreed to list the matter for an expedited hearing.
