A major high-profile s*x racket operating from a luxury resort in the Ramnagar area of Nainital was dismantled late Saturday night following a coordinated raid by Uttarakhand police. The operation led to the arrest of 51 individuals and the safe rescue of 10 women, including a minor. Authorities have also sealed the resort premises as investigations continue.
The joint operation was executed by the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU), the Special Operations Group (SOG), and local police under the direct supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manjunath TC. Acting on a specific tip-off, law enforcement teams raided the resort during an ongoing event where commercial s*xual activities, illegal alcohol consumption, and narcotics use were reportedly taking place. According to police officials, the event was organized by Umendra Kumar, a businessman from Meerut who runs a pesticide manufacturing firm. Investigators revealed that Kumar had booked the luxury resort for July 4–5 for an estimated ₹2.2 lakh to entertain his business associates. The arrested clients include businessmen and individuals traveling from various districts across Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
The rescued women had reportedly been trafficked from different Indian states-including West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh-as well as from neighboring Nepal. Police established that coordinators Rahul Gupta (alias Sunny) and Sunil Kumar Pandey procured the women for the event at a rate of ₹10,000 each. A 17-year-old boy was also taken into protective custody during the operation.
Further investigations exposed an intentional effort by the resort’s management to cover up the illegal ring. The general manager of the resort, Lakhendra Chaudhary, allegedly instructed his staff to omit the names of the guests and the women from the visitor logbook to eliminate evidence. Chaudhary fled the scene before the raid and currently remains at large. During the search, police recovered a substantial quantity of liquor, electronic devices, objectionable materials, and bundles of counterfeit currency notes used during dance performances. ‘S*x Racket’ Busted in West Bengal: Police Bust Trafficking Racket in Uttar Dinajpur, Rescue 17 Minor Girls.
