Telangana: Drunk Man Steals RTC Bus From Bus Stand, Drives 21 km Before Toll Gate Crash

A drunk man allegedly stole a hired RTC bus from the Jangaon bus stand in Telangana and drove it nearly 21 kilometres before crashing into a cement block at the Singarajupalli toll gate. Police arrested the accused, identified as Jittaboyina Venkanna, and registered a case. An investigation is underway to determine the sequence of events.

A man allegedly stole a hired RTC bus from the Jangaon bus stand in Telangana and drove it for nearly 21 kilometres before crashing into a cement block at a toll gate in the early hours of Thursday,  July 9. Police said the accused was taken into custody, and a case has been registered.

The accused has been identified as Jittaboyina Venkanna, a resident of Chennuru village in Palakurthi mandal, who works as a bulldozer operator. Bus Allegedly Driven Away From Stand

Police said the bus driver had completed his scheduled trip on Wednesday night and parked the hired RTC bus at the Jangaon bus stand before leaving for home.

Investigators said the driver had inadvertently left the keys inside the vehicle. Journey Ended at Toll Gate

According to police, the accused drove the bus towards Suryapet and covered nearly 21 kilometres before reaching the Singarajupalli toll gate in Devaruppula mandal. The bus eventually collided with a cement block at the toll gate and came to a halt. The incident aroused suspicion among toll plaza staff, who immediately alerted the Devaruppula police.

A police team reached the spot and conducted a preliminary inquiry. Officials said it was found that Venkanna was under the influence of alcohol. He was taken into custody along with the bus and later handed over to the Jangaon police for further action.

"A case has been registered based on a complaint lodged by Ganta Gopikrishna Reddy, the owner of the rented RTC bus," Jangaon Circle Inspector Satyanarayana Reddy said. Police said an investigation has been launched to ascertain the sequence of events.
