A woman from Maharashtra's Thane has been booked for allegedly honey-trapping a 53-year-old retired Army major and extorting INR 20 lakh by threatening to implicate him in false criminal cases, police officials said on Thursday.

According to police, the complainant, a doctor currently residing in Rajasthan's Bhilwara, alleged that the woman blackmailed him between April 2024 and May 2026.

Rape Case Led to Arrest, Complaint Alleges

Police said the woman also filed a rape case against the victim, alleging rape on the false promise of marriage. The complaint states that the case resulted in the doctor's arrest and judicial custody.

While the complainant was in custody, the accused allegedly extorted INR 20 lakh from one of his relatives, police said.

The complaint further alleges that the woman later demanded an additional INR 15 lakh. Case Registered Under BNS Sections

Based on the victim's complaint, the Kapurbawdi Police registered an FIR against the woman on Tuesday under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 318(4) (cheating), Section 308(2) (extortion), Section 351(2) (criminal intimidation) and Section 248(b) (false charge of offence made with intent to injure).

Investigation Underway

Police said no arrests have been made in connection with the latest case so far. Officials added that an investigation is underway to verify the allegations and determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged extortion.
