Lucknow, July 26: In yet another case of man-animal conflict, a tigress was beaten to death in UP's Pilibhit district in a village by people. The villagers used sticks and bamboo to kill the tigress, shows a video shot by one of the villagers. The video shows people brutually beating the tigress to death through sticks. The village where the incident took place happens to be close to the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve. The mobile video shot and shared by a resident of the Mataina village also contains voices of villagers justifying the killing of the tigress, saying that the animal had attacked a few villagers days ago. The District Magistrate of Pilibhit, V Srivastava, said about the incident that "Postmortem of the tiger is underway. On basis of the video, case registered against few persons. Further investigation is underway." A data says that India has lost at least 51 tigers since January 2019 for various reasons such as poaching, cannibalism and death by disease or illness.
