UP: Man Throws Acid on Ex-Fiancée, Her Sister After Marriage Called Off
A man was arrested in Hapur district, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday night after allegedly launching an acid attack on his former fiancée and her sister. The violence reportedly erupted after the woman’s family called off the couple's planned marriage due to allegations regarding the suspect’s drug addiction.
A man allegedly attacked his former fiancée and her sister with acid at their home in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, after their marriage alliance was called off over his alleged drug addiction, police said on Sunday. Both women suffered serious injuries and are undergoing treatment at a hospital, TOI reported.
Marriage Alliance Called Off
According to the victims’ father, his daughter’s marriage had been fixed with the accused, identified as Harsh Bhati, a resident of Awas Vikas Colony in Hapur. The family later decided to call off the alliance after allegedly learning that Bhati was addicted to drugs, according to the complaint filed with police. Acid Attack at Victims’ Home
Police said Bhati allegedly arrived at the women’s house on Saturday night carrying acid. When the door was opened, he allegedly threw acid at his former fiancée. Her sister tried to intervene, following which the accused allegedly attacked her as well. Hearing the women’s screams, family members caught Bhati as he attempted to flee and handed him over to the police.
Police Take Accused Into Custody
Personnel from the Simbhawali police station reached the spot and took Bhati into custody. Circle Officer Rahul Yadav said a case has been registered based on the complaint filed by the victims’ family. The accused is being questioned as part of the investigation. The two sisters were admitted to a hospital following the attack, where they are receiving medical treatment. Investigation Underway
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack and the events leading up to the cancellation of the marriage alliance.
