Kolkata, February 15: In a shocking case from West Bengal, a Booth Level Officer allegedly used the ongoing Special Intensive Revision, SIR, of electoral rolls as a pretext to lure his lover’s husband before killing and dismembering him. The gruesome murder took place in the North 24 Parganas district, triggering outrage among locals.
According to police, the accused, Rizwan Hasan Mondal, who was serving as a BLO, was in an extramarital relationship with Nasir Ali’s wife. On Monday evening, Mondal allegedly called 30 year old Nasir Ali to a deserted location, citing issues related to the SIR process.
Investigators said Mondal, along with his accomplice Sagar Gyne, murdered Ali and later chopped his body into pieces. The body parts were dumped at three different locations in a canal in the Baduria area. The remains were recovered by police on Friday following an intensive search operation. Ali’s family had lodged a missing person complaint on Tuesday after he failed to return home. During the investigation, police tracked Mondal’s phone records, which reportedly led to his interrogation and subsequent arrest. Gyne was also taken into custody for allegedly assisting in the murder, dismemberment, and disposal of the body. Both accused have been charged with murder and destruction of evidence. Police said further investigation is underway to establish the exact sequence of events and gather forensic evidence.
The incident sparked protests in the area, with locals staging a road blockade for around half an hour, demanding strict action and justice for the deceased.
Authorities are continuing the probe into the case as the brutal killing has sent shockwaves across North 24 Parganas and beyond.
