An 81-year-old Mira Road resident, Asgarali Vohra, has sought PM Narendra Modi's intervention and a CBI probe in a land dispute dating back to 1989, alleging encroachment by builders linked to a BJP MLA. A hearing in the case is scheduled for September 16.
An 81-year-old Mira Road resident has approached his childhood classmate, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a bid to resolve a decades-long land dispute, seeking justice and a CBI investigation into the case. Asgarali Vohra, who studied alongside Modi at the B N School in Vadnagar, Gujarat, met the PM on September 8 to seek his intervention. Vohra said he was hopeful of finally getting justice after receiving a positive response from Modi during the meeting.
The Land Dispute Dates Back To 1989
Vohra had purchased around 2,810 square metres of land at Navghar in Bhayander East through a registered agreement in 1989. He has alleged that the plot was encroached upon in 2011 by Swayam Builders and Seven Eleven Constructions, a company linked to BJP MLA Narendra Mehta. According to Vohra, forged documents were created in connection with the property, the original owner was kept in the dark, and the land was subsequently split into two portions with possession shown in the names of the two firms. An FIR was registered in 2015 after Vohra pursued the matter, and the case remains pending before a court. He said he had also been approaching the revenue department, municipal authorities and police over the years seeking a resolution, without success. Hearing Scheduled For September 16
State transport minister Pratap Sarnaik released photographs and a press note documenting Vohra's meeting with the PM, expressing hope that Modi would help ensure justice for his old friend. Following the meeting, the municipal administration has also taken note of the case. A hearing has now been scheduled for September 16, with representatives of Seven Eleven Constructions and Swayam Builders directed to be present.
