Who Is Mahesh Dixit?
Mahesh Dixit has spent a significant part of his career with the Intelligence Bureau and is regarded as an experienced intelligence and counter-terrorism officer. Before being appointed IB chief, he served as the Special Director in the agency after being elevated to the post in 2024. Leadership Transition
Dixit's appointment follows the completion of Tapan Deka's tenure as IB Director. Deka, a 1988-batch IPS officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre, had led the Intelligence Bureau since July 2022 and received multiple tenure extensions during his term.
The appointment comes at a time when India's internal security agencies continue to focus on counter-terrorism, counter-intelligence, cyber threats and emerging national security challenges.
