Yadav is reportedly miffed about the recent resignations from the party. On July 16, SP Rajya Sabha MP Neeraj Shekhar resigned and joined the BJP. On August 1, another Rajya Sabha MP from the party, Surendra Kumar Nagar resigned followed by another Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Seth.

This was Akhilesh Yadav’s second consecutive attack on the BJP in as many days after the former CM raised questions behind the motive of the BJP government in the Lok Sabha on Monday regarding Article 370.
Questioning the rush and reason mentioned by the ruling dispensation to bifurcate the state of Jammu and Kashmir into Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh and abrogation of Article 370, Akhilesh Yadav said that the "development" reason given by the BJP does not seem authentic enough. However, Akhilesh said that SP supports any bill that supports and strengthens the nation but added that the decision in a democracy must be made by consensus, not by force.
