Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who arrived in Karnataka to attend scheduled official programmes on Saturday, September 19, suffered an episode of "food poisoning" but is now "perfect", Union Minister and senior BJP leader Pralhad Joshi confirmed. The sudden illness forced Shah to skip his scheduled public appearances in Hubballi and Belagavi earlier in the day on medical advice.

Amit Shah had arrived in Hubballi late on Friday night, September 18, to participate in high-profile public events across north Karnataka. Amit Shah Suffers Food Poisoning: Programmes Skipped and Campus Inauguration

Shah was scheduled to formally inaugurate the new academic building of the KLE Jagadguru Gangadhar Mahaswamigalu Moorusavirmath Medical College and the 1,200-bed KLE Hospital and Medical Research Centre at Gabbur in Hubballi. In his absence, the medical facility was inaugurated by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, Karnataka Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil, former chief minister Basavaraj Bommai, Belagavi MP Jagadish Shettar, and Sri Gurusiddha Rajayogindra Swami of Shri Jagadguru Moorusavirmath.

Addressing the gathering, KLE Society Chairman and former Rajya Sabha MP Prabhakar Kore said, "Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who was the main attraction of this historic event, has remained in the hotel on the advice of doctors as he developed health issues. He asked me to convey this message to you". Local party leaders later confirmed that Shah paid a brief visit to the KLE campus in the evening before departing from the airport for Delhi.

Belagavi Event Cancelled as Leaders Share Update

Shah's scheduled visit to Belagavi district was also cancelled, where he was due to inaugurate the new headquarters building of the Sri Beereshwara Cooperative Credit Society at Examba in Chikkodi taluk.

"Amit Shah should have come here. He suffered ill health due to food poisoning. Annasaheb Jolle (former BJP MP) had invited me and Shettar (Belagavi MP Jagadish Shettar) for the event, we were supposed to come along with him, but only we have come now," Joshi told reporters in Examba.

Providing an update on the Home Minister's condition, Joshi confirmed that Shah was "perfect" now, adding, "Naturally, due to vomiting from food poisoning, he had some weakness".
