Tamil Nadu Human Resources Management Minister D Sarathkumar has dismissed allegations that he was preparing to consume drugs in a viral video circulating on social media, saying the footage has been taken out of context and wrongly interpreted. The minister clarified that the clip, recorded around two years ago during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match, showed him crushing a medicine tablet for his one-and-a-half-year-old child.
The controversy began after a video resurfaced online showing Sarathkumar using what appeared to be a debit or credit card to crush a white substance placed on a mobile phone screen. The footage prompted speculation on social media, with some users alleging that the minister was preparing to snort drugs. Sarathkumar has rejected those claims, stating that the substance in the video was medicine and not an illegal drug. D Sarathkumar Viral Video Clarification
Responding to the allegations, Sarathkumar said the video dates back around two years and was recorded while he was watching an IPL match. According to the minister, his wife had informed him that their one-and-a-half-year-old child was refusing to swallow a prescribed medicine and was repeatedly spitting it out. To make it easier for the child to consume the medicine, he said, he crushed the tablet into a fine powder before mixing it with a liquid.
