New Delhi, January 21: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday denied fielding a fresh candidate against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal from New Delhi assembly seat. The BJP, post-Monday-midnight, declared Sunil Yadav as its candidate from New Delhi assembly seat. Earlier today, reports said that the BJP was rethinking on Yadav's candidature and he was called for a meeting with party president Jagat Prakash Nadda. Delhi Assembly Elections 2020: BJP Spokesperson Naveen Kumar Attacks Arvind Kejriwal, Says 'Delhi Needs Vikas, Not Vinaash'.

"We have decided that Sunil Yadav will remain our candidate against Arvind Kejriwal. We are assured of his victory in the upcoming assembly elections,"  BJP's Delhi in-charge Shyam Jaju told news agency ANI. An advocate by profession, Yadav is a young face who heads BJP's Yuva Morcha in the national capital. His name featured in the final list of the BJP for the Delhi assembly elections. In the first list, BJP had released 57 names in which figures like AAP rebel Kapil Mishra and BJP veteran Vijender Gupta figured. The Delhi assembly has 70 seats. The remaining three is being given to allies Lok Janshakti Party and Janata Dal (United). No seat has been allotted to ally Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) over the disagreement between the two over Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register of Citizens.

The AAP has fielded candidates on all 70 seats. Polling for Delhi's 70 assembly seats will be held on February 8. Counting of votes will take place on February 11 and results will be announced on the same day.
