New Delhi, May 10: The sale of liquor will be banned for the next 48 hours in constituencies going for polls on May 12. The ban will be continued till the conclusion of voting in the respective constituencies. Dry days are observed because of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), which is imposed for conducting fair elections. The ban on the sale of alcohol will begin from 5 pm on Friday and would continue till 6 pm on Sunday. Lok Sabha Elections 2019 Phase VI: List of States And Constituencies Voting On May 12.

In the sixth phase, polling will be held across seven states including Delhi on 59 Lok Sabha constituencies. Eight constituencies in Bihar, four in Jharkhand, nine in West Bengal, eight in Madhya Pradesh, 13 in Rajasthan, 10 in Haryana and seven seats in Delhi are going for polls on May 12. The campaigning for these seats has ended at 5 pm on Friday.

The key battles in this phase include Atishi vs Gautam Gambhir in East Delhi, Akhilesh Yadav vs Dinesh Lal Yadav in Azamgarh, Bhupendra Singh Hooda Vs Ramesh Kaushik in Sonipat. From Delhi North East Lok Sabha constituency, former Delhi CM Sheil Dikshit is taking on BJP leader Manoj Tiwari.

For smooth conduct of the polls, a total of 1,13,167 polling booths have been earmarked by the Election Commission. A total of 979 candidates are in the fray in the sixth phase. The counting of votes will take place on May 23 and on the same day results will be declared.
