NCPI MP Saayoni Ghosh's participation in the NDA parliamentary party's 'Mangal Milan' meeting on Tuesday, July 28, has triggered speculation over her political positioning after she and other former Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs, who later joined the NCPI, attended the gathering chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Ghosh also voiced support for the proposed anti-paper leak legislation and described the meeting as "enriching and informative."

The meeting, held at the Parliament House complex, was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, senior Union ministers and NDA MPs. It also marked the first time that all 20 NCPI MPs attended the NDA's 'Mangal Milan' meeting after aligning themselves with the ruling alliance following their exit from the TMC. Saayoni Ghosh Welcomes Anti-Paper Leak Bill 2026, Backs Discussion on Students’ Concerns in Parliament (Video).

What Saayoni Ghosh Said After the Meeting

Speaking after the meeting, Saayoni Ghosh said: "I participated in the NDA meeting. It was an enriching and informative meeting in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Today, we had a discussion of FTAs. It was a positive discussion."

She also urged support for The Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, commonly referred to as the anti-paper leak bill, which was scheduled for discussion later in the day. Following their move to the NCPI, the MPs have expressed allegiance to the NDA, reflecting the party's role within the ruling alliance. Major Jolt to Mamata Banarjee: Saayoni Ghosh Backs Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar’s Rebel TMC Faction, Says Report.

NCPI MPs Call Meeting Informative

Another NCPI MP, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, said it was the first time all 20 NCPI MPs had been invited to the NDA's 'Mangal Milan' meeting. "We came to know about the progress of the country, about FTAs, farmers… With the data we got, we will be able to make people understand about that as well."

The meeting focused on issues including free trade agreements (FTAs), agriculture and government initiatives, according to participating MPs.

From TMC Leader to NDA Ally

Saayoni Ghosh was among the prominent Trinamool Congress leaders before joining the NCPI along with a group of rebel MPs. Since joining the NCPI, the party has positioned itself as part of the NDA, bringing its MPs into the alliance's parliamentary activities. Her appearance alongside Prime Minister Modi and senior NDA leaders has drawn attention because of her earlier political identity as a vocal TMC face.

Condom Controversy and Campaign Song Debate

Saayoni Ghosh has previously been at the centre of political controversies.

In 2021, an old social media post dating back to 2015 resurfaced, showing an image of a condom placed over a Shivling. The post sparked criticism from several political leaders and organisations for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. Ghosh later apologised and claimed that her social media account had been hacked when the post was made.

More recently, during election campaigning, videos of Ghosh singing a Bengali folk song containing the lines "Kaaba is in my heart, Madina in my eyes" circulated widely on social media. Separate videos also showed her reciting the Hanuman Chalisa, prompting claims that she had changed her campaign messaging.

However, multiple independent fact-checks found that the videos were recorded during campaigns in different states and were later edited together and shared out of context, making the viral narrative misleading.

Saayoni Ghosh's participation in the NDA's parliamentary meeting highlights the changing political landscape following the shift of several former TMC MPs to the NCPI and their integration into the ruling alliance.

Her remarks supporting the anti-paper leak legislation and participation in the NDA's internal discussions indicate her active role within the alliance's parliamentary strategy, even as her political journey continues to attract public attention because of her earlier controversies.
