New Delhi, November 25: Congress General Secretary Jyotiraditya Scindia has removed references to his association with the Congress from his Twitter bio. This sparked off a buzz about a possibility of Jyotiraditya Scindia leaving the Congress or joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The former Congress MP's bio simply read: "Public servant. Cricket enthusiast." He, however, on Monday later clarified that he was not leaving the Congress. Jyotiraditya Scindia Has This Message For Kamal Nath Amid Feud Within Madhya Pradesh Congress.

"A month back I had changed my bio on Twitter. On people's advice, I had made my bio shorter. Rumours regarding this are baseless," Scindia told news agency ANI. A close confidant of Rahul Gandhi, Scindia is often criticised for going against the party line. He was among first few Congress leaders who voiced his support towards the Modi government's decision to revoke special status to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370. Madhya Pradesh Congress Feud: Digvijaya Singh Breaks Silence, Urges Kamal Nath And Sonia Gandhi to Maintain Discipline.

A section of Congress members wanted Scindia to be made the chief minister after the party won elections in Madhya Pradesh in 2018. Then Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, however, chose Kamal Nath to lead the state. Since then, Scindia has been at loggerheads with Nath. Madhya Pradesh Congress's spokesperson Narendra Saluja downplayed change in Scindia 's Twitter bio and no mention of references to his association with the Congress.

Saluja said that former state chief minister and BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan had changed his Twitter bio after losing power. Chouhan's Twitter bio now reads: "The Common Man of Madhya Pradesh." Meanwhile, Navabharat Times resident editor Sudhir Mishra tweeted that 20 Cong MLAs believed to be close to Scindia were "missing and unreachable" for two days. The Congress party had wrested power from the BJP after Assembly polls held last year.

In the 230-member House, the Congress party has 114 legislators. They have a wafer-thin majority in the House with support of Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party.
