New Delhi, July 7: In another setback for the Congress, Jyotiraditya Scindia on Sunday quit as the party's general secretary in Uttar Pradesh (West), taking responsibility of the grand old party’s debacle. The former Congress MP also thanked Rahul Gandhi for showing trust in him. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Scindia had also lost from Guna Lok Sabha constituency, his family bastion to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate KP Yadav. Congress Infighting Out in Open in Mumbai, Milind Deora Blames Sanjay Nirupam For Feud.

Scindia tweeted, “Accepting the people’s verdict and taking accountability, I had submitted my resignation as general secretary of AICC to Rahul Gandhi. I thank him for entrusting me with this responsibility and for giving me the opportunity to serve our party.”

Earlier in the day, Mumbai Congress President Milind Deora also resigned from the post. Talking to the media, Deora expressed his wish to play a role at the national level to provide stability to the party. After the general elections, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath has already resigned as state Congress chief.

On Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi also resigned as Congress President, taking the complete responsibility of the party's poor show in Lok Sabha elections. In the recently concluded general elections, the grand old party managed to win only 52 seats.
