Mumbai, May 15: Karnataka Assembly Elections Results 2018 were declared by the Election Commission of India (ECI), earlier today. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the single largest party with Congress and Janata Dal-Secular on the second & third positions respectively. Talking about Udupi district, the BJP secured victories in all the five constituencies - Byndoor, Karkal, Kapu, Kundapura, and Udupi.

In the 2013 Karnataka Assembly Elections, the Congress’ candidates won in Baindur, Kapu, and Udipi constituencies. On the other hand, the BJP candidate and an Independent candidate won in Karkal and Kundapura constituencies respectively.

The election trends initially were in favour of Congress, which soon changed in favour of the BJP. So much so that they were, at one time, projected to form the government by themselves. However, by the end of the day, they fell short of the majority mark and it was the Congress-JD(S) which seemed to stake a claim to the Governor to make a government.
