Kolkata, December 25: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee raised slogans against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) at a rally in Kolkata. Her protest march on Tuesday started from Vidhan Sarani to Beleghata.

Earlier in the day, West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar had to leave after he was blocked by protesting students from entering Jadavpur University in Kolkata.  Black flags were waved at him, and his car was blocked near one of the university's gates. Placards reading -'No NRC, No CAA' were held up by the students. Dhankar was supposed to attend the university's convocation ceremony today. According to an ANI tweet, he said, "It is a painful moment for me as a Chancellor and Governor, students inside waiting to be handed over their degrees but a handful of people blocking me outside. It is a total collapse of the rule of law. The state government has put education in captivity."

On Monday, BJP Working President JP Nadda arrived at Kolkata airport to lead a march supporting the Citizenship Act. Mamata Banerjee has remained firm that she would not allow the implementation of CAA and NRC in the state and it can happen only over her dead body.
