Srinagar, April 7: Days after the Centre issued an order restricting the movement of civilians on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway for two days a week - Sundays and Wednesdays, National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah,  Peoples Democratic Party supremo Mehbooba Mufti and former chief minister Omar Abdullah voiced their opinions against this decision on Sunday. Today is the first day of the ban and hundreds of people were seen stranded.

Comparing this decision with dictatorship, Abdullah said, "Traders’ Federation president met me saying that ‘our lifeline is this road & closing it will cause losses to us.' This looks like some dictatorship law." Mehbooba Mufti Appeals to People to Reject Those Attempting to Fragment Jammu and Kashmir.

Adding more, the NC chief stated that the centre should use trains for the movement for security troops. Abdullah said, "They should use trains if they want the Army to commute or travel at night, so that it doesn’t affect the people. The order should be withdrawn."

Echoing similar views, PDP's Mehbooba Mufti said, "This is wrong. We would like to tell the govt that you can't suppress Kashmiris like this. This is our state, these are our roads, we have the right to use them whenever we want."

She also urged the people not to accept the ban. Asking people to defy the ban, she said, "You saw that the students are facing a lot of problem due to it. I urge people not to accept the ban. Defy it, go wherever you want. We will approach the court against this ban."

Even former J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah expressed his anger, He took to Twitter and wrote, "Driving to Uri I’m getting to see first hand the extent of disruption & inconvenience that is being caused to people because of the mindless highway closure order that is in place today."

Here's the Tweet:

Earlier, the centre issued an order barring civilian movement for two days at Jammu-Srinagar National Highway for two days a week. The decision has been issued by the Centre following the Pulwama terror attack on February 14, where 40 CRPF personnel were martyred.
