Hyderabad, May 23: Polling in Vellore was called off after a major controversy raked up during election due to abuse of money power.  President Ram Nath Kovind accepted the Election Commission's plea to cancel voting in Vellore, following seizure of at least Rs 12 crore in cash from a DMK leader's associate in raids. The current MP in the state is B Senguttuvan who belongs to the Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (ADMK).

The constituency number of the the Vellore constituency is 8 and is not reserved for any category, which means it falls in General Category.   Senguttuvan was elected to the Lok Sabha from Vellore constituency after defeating A. C. Shanmugam by a margin of 59,393 votes. In the run up to the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections,  the Puthiya Needhi Katchi (PNK) founder AC Shanmugam will contest from the Vellore seat. Meanwhile,  Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate D.M. Kathir Anand has been fielded from the Vellore Parliamentary constituencies.

All the 39 seats in Tamil Nadu will go to vote on April 18. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.  In the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Tamil Nadu will vote in the second phase which are slated to take place on April 18. In the 2014 General Assembly Elections, Senguttuvan, B. of the of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) had defeated Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Shanmugam, A.C. Senguttuvan had won the seat with a total of 383,719 votes in the last elections in this constituency.
