According to the footage and accompanying claims, the oath was taken to guarantee that no member of the group would be left out when municipal corporation funds and illicit commissions were distributed.
“We swear that whatever income the corporation (Nigam) generates will be distributed equally among all the councillors (Parshads). And we, the people of the group, if any harm comes to anyone, then all of us will stand together,” the councillors were heard pledging.
A Shahjahanpur municipal councillor is seen holding a Gangajal vessel and allegedly taking an oath to “honestly” share bribe proceeds. The alleged civic body earnings, he says, will be divided equally among 60 people to ensure complete transparency and collective backing within the group.
The video has triggered widespread public criticism over the open display of collusion among local representatives. By leveraging a sacred religious symbol like Gangajal, the corporators sought to bind their alliance and maintain strict loyalty among the members involved.
Furthermore, the members explicitly pledged that if any legal or administrative action is brought against any individual member of the group, all of them will stand united in support.
