Thiruvananthapuram, July 25: In connection with the Udaya Kumar custodial death case, Thiruvananthapuram Special CBI court has awarded death sentence to Assistant sub-inspector of police K Jithukumar and Civil Police Officer SV Sreekumar, according to ANI. This is a 13-year-old case where a man, Udayakumar, had died in police custody. On Tuesday, the CBI Special Court found all the six policemen guilty in connection with the custodial murder of Udaya Kumar, a 27-year-old, at Fort Police station on September 27, 2005.
According to an Indian Express report, Udaya Kumar and Suresh were whiling away time at Sreekandeshwaram Park when constables Jithukumar and Sreekumar caught them after they found Rs 4,500 in his pocket. Suspecting that the duo has stolen cash, the policemen took them to the Fort station for interrogation. They were then subjected to brutal third-degree treatment so that they confess.
After all the years of fighting to get justice for her son, it comes as a great victory for the mother of Udaya Kumar, Prabhavati Amma, who has finally brought the culprits to the dock.
