Haryana will celebrate its 53rd Formation Day on November 1, 2019. Haryana is one of the 28 states of India and was carved out of East Punjab on this day in 1966. The state is often referred as "the land of God". Hindi is the official language of the state. Around 70 percent of the total population of Haryana who lives in rural areas speak Haryanvi dialect of Hindi.

In April 1966, the Shah Commission was set up by the government to divide the existing state of Punjab. The commission headed by Justice JC Shah determined the boundaries of the new state after consideration of the languages spoken by the people. Haryana came into existence on November 1, 1966 almost one and half month after The Punjab Reorganisation Act was passed by the Indian Parliament on September 18, 1966, dissolving the former state of East Punjab.
