Q. I am a 34-year-old man in a relationship with a 27-year-old woman for the past four years. We have a healthy sexual life and both of us enjoy sex with each other. However, I have been worried about one thing since the time we started to have sex. There is a difference between the sizes of both her breasts, so much so that it is quite clearly visible. I love foreplay with her breasts more than anything else and she loves to experience a boobgasm as well, therefore I usually get distracted by the difference in the size of both her boobs. It is not like I am going to love her any less but I really want to know if the difference in both the boob size really natural and is there anything to be worried about?

Ans. It is, in fact, a rarity to find women with exactly same-sized boobs. It is absolutely common for women to have asymmetrical breasts and for one breast to be slightly larger than the other. Most women have uneven breast sizes because there are chances that one breast may develop sooner than the other. Sometimes the breast sizes even out with age but it is still very difficult to have exactly the same size for both the left and the right breasts. If the size difference between your breasts is quite apparent some women choose to wear extra-supportive bras or put special inserts in the bra. However, in some cases, changes in breast size can be worrisome. Here are some of the changes in breasts to look out for:

  • A lump in or near your breast or under your arm
  • Thick or firm tissue in or near your breast or under your arm
  • A change in the size or shape of your breast
  • Nipple discharge, mostly an unusual fluid that is not breast milk
  • Nipple changes, such as a nipple that points or faces inward into the breast
  • Itching, redness, scaling, dimples, or puckers on your breast

If you are still not satisfied you can visit a gynaecologist with your girlfriend for reassurance. Rest assured, it is normal to have a difference in the size of both the breasts. Also, you must know that the only way to make both breasts of the same size is to undergo surgery.
