The Earth is round, right? Well, a new survey conducted YouGov found only 66% of millennials (age 18-24) who were polled firmly believed that the world is round. The rest were either sceptical, always thought the world was flat or are not sure. The flat Earth theory has gained popularity in recent when notable figures such as rapper B.o.B and others voiced their support for it. Supporters of flat Earth theory received a most recent setback in the form of a Reddit thread. A Reddit user amazed_spirit shared an image taken from the top of Mount Everest in which a mountaineer has taken a selfie that displays the curvature of the Earth quite clearly behind him.

In a Reddit post, captioned ‘Checkmate Flat Earth Society’, the user shared an image of a person posing for a selfie at the summit of Mount Everest. To Flat-Earthers’ distress, the image clearly shows the curved edge of the planet in the backdrop. It is unclear and no where mentioned whether the photographer was using a fisheye lens, which could have distorted the image.

Though a lot of Redditors beneath the image seemed somewhat annoyed at the amount of rubbish that appears to by lying around atop the world’s highest mountain. The remnants are of those thousands of people who have been up and left their religious symbols deliberately behind them. A lot of discussion about what happens to all the stuff that mountaineers take on their way up the mountain, which obviously must come down with them. One Redditor claimed, “There is a 4,000 dollar fine I believe if you don’t have around 18lbs of crap when you get down. You have to pay the deposit when you go up and you don’t get it back if you don’t bring that much back down with you.”

Although there is already an overwhelming body of evidence which suggests that the Earth is round, but for some reason the flat Earth conspiracy just won’t go away. Well, this one picture that has been circulating might have just put all the theories of Earth being flat to bed once and for all.
