IIT Roorkee Floods: Makeshift Ferry Near Kasturba Bhawan
The flooding submerged campus roads, lawns and sports fields under knee-deep water following days of relentless rain.

To move across the flooded stretch, two people positioned themselves at either end and used long wooden poles and pipes to steer the platform through the water.
According to reports, the arrangement was put together to help hostel mess staff reach the kitchens and prepare lunch for students without having to wade through dirty floodwater.
The videos quickly gained traction online, with many social media users praising the ingenuity displayed by those on campus. Several creators added the iconic song "My Heart Will Go On" from the film Titanic to the footage, giving the clips a humorous touch.
Other videos from the campus also showed students playing football on waterlogged grounds despite the challenging weather conditions. The institute's media cell confirmed that the videos were indeed filmed on the IIT Roorkee campus.
Officials clarified that the floating platform was an improvised solution adopted by students and staff to deal with the flooding safely while ensuring that daily activities, including meal preparation, could continue.
While the viral videos have provided a lighter moment amid the rains, the overall weather situation in Uttarakhand remains serious. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several districts, warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall and the possibility of flash floods.
Authorities have advised residents and pilgrims to avoid non-essential travel as rivers continue to flow close to the danger mark and more than 100 transport routes across the state remain disrupted.
