Mumbai, September 4: For the first time in 86 years, Mumbai's iconic Lalbaugcha Raja has received one of the most 'expensive gifts' right at the beginning of the Ganesh Puja 2019. The mandal has received a gold dining set, worth Rs 50,000 from an unidentified devotee. According to a Hindustan Times report, the donation, includes a plate, two bowls, two spoons and a tumbler — all made of gold — collectively weighs 1.2kg. Balasaheb Kamble, president of the mandal quoted in the report said, "This mandal keeps getting such offerings in gold and silver every year. But, the value of this offering is the highest ever so far. We do not know who has donated this." The approximate collection, in cash and kind, was around Rs 12 crore last year, and the mandal raised Rs 1.58 crore from auctioning the gold items. The first look of Lalbaugcha Raja 2019 was unveiled on August 30 ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi, which kickstarted on September 2. The theme for Lalbaugcha Raja 2019 is around Chandrayaan 2. Lalbaugcha Raja is one of the most famous Sarvajanik Ganapati festivals in the city of Mumbai. In fact, people come from all over the state to pay their respect and worship the Lord. It is among the highly revered celebrations in the city and it is believed that all wishes will be granted if one pays their respect to the Lord.
