As Aditya Dhar’s espionage thriller Dhurandhar: The Revenge shatters global box office records, a viral conversation has emerged from Lyari, Pakistan. Residents of the Karachi neighbourhood, which serves as a primary setting for the film, are demanding a significant share of the earnings, ranging from INR 500 crore to 80% of the profits for the development of their local infrastructure. The demands surfaced following a viral video from a YouTube channel, Comparison TV, where locals expressed that since the film utilised Lyari’s name, identity and specific situations to generate wealth, the community should benefit from its success. Lyari Residents Ask INR 500 Crore Share
In the video, residents pointed to the stark contrast between the film’s massive commercial success and the deteriorating state of Lyari’s infrastructure. One resident highlighted the need for basic amenities, stating, "The film made on Lyari, it's a very VIP film and it earned a lot of money. Lyari tarakki kare bahut aur yeh sadake bann jaayengi (May Lyari progress a lot and may these roads get built)." Another man was more direct in his financial expectations, citing the film's INR 1,000 crore milestone, "Agar 1000 crore mil rahe hain toh 500 crore Lyari waalon ko de naa. Aadhi kamayi den toh yeh roads bane, bacche jaate hain toh paaon se daane nikalte hain (If you’re earning INR 1,000 crore, then at least give INR 500 crore to the people of Lyari. If you give even half your earnings, these roads will get built. When children walk on them, they end up with blisters on their feet)."

Lyari People Demand Share
The sentiment among some locals is that the production has a moral obligation to donate, given the source of its narrative. One resident argued for an even higher percentage, "At least we should get crores... 70%-80% should be given. Where did the income come from? From using Lyari's name and showing its situations, so they should donate." While the demands have sparked debate online, with some fans calling the requests "humorous" and others "shameless" the filmmakers, including Aditya Dhar have yet to issue an official response.
