It is an age where all of us share every bit on social media. While we breathe the platforms, we often forget to think before we share. A woman has lost a highly coveted National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) internship recently. Reason? Well, take a note! Never use any foul language when you celebrate and share the news of the opportunity to work with NASA. Yes. Naomi H, an astronomy aspirant learnt things the hard way after she lost to what it was supposed to be a big break in her career because of a tweet of success using profane language. Tennis in Space! This is what has happened! On August 23, superbly excited Naomi shared the news on Twitter, “Everyone shut the f**** up. I got accepted for a NASA internship.” When a user replied “language” referring to Naomi’s use of the word fuck, she responded, “Suck my dick and balls I’m working at NASA.” Little did she know, that the man whom she responded is Homer Hickam, a former NASA engineer who trained the first Japanese astronauts, and an author who now serves on the organisation that supervises the space agency. His response simply stated, “And I am on the National Space Council that oversees NASA.”

The communication between the two has now been deleted. But few Twitter handlers have taken a screenshot to upload on social media, which went viral.

It turns out that the man was telling the truth and she lost the opportunity to work with NASA. Naomi since the incident made her tweets protected and changed her bio, “Taking a break from Twitter for a while.” Hickam too deleted his tweets when he saw the thread began to attract massive attention. He later explained in a blog post saying that he had no role in her losing the offer at the space agency.

Hickam wrote, “I do not hire and fire at the agency or have any say on employment whatsoever. As it turned out, it was due to the Nasa hashtag her friends used that called the agency's attention to it long after my comments were gone.” The former NASA engineer said that the aspirant had reached out to him with an apology which he accepted. Hickam further informed that he is taking care that her career is not at risk and that there is no black mark on her record. Naomi may reapply for the internship.
