Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar has also joined the wave of criticism and called out Nitish Kumar for his alleged disrespectful behaviour.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar sparked a row after he pulled down the hijab of a newly recruited AYUSH doctor. The incident occurred during an appointment letter distribution ceremony for 1,283 doctors. A viral video showed Kumar pulling down the veil of Nusrat Parveen, leaving her visibly uncomfortable and triggering massive online outrage. Legendary Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar has also reacted to the incident and slammed Nitish Kumar through a post on social media. Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday (December 18), he wrote, "Everyone who knows me ,even in the most cursory manner, knows how much I am against the traditional concept of Parda, but it doesn’t mean that by any stretch of imagination I can accept what Mr Nitish Kumar has done to a Muslim lady doctor. I condemn it in very strong words. Mr Nitish Kumar owes an unconditional apology to the lady."
