Shah Rukh Khan's Chak De! India (2007) remains a standout film in Hindi cinema, renowned for being a compelling sports drama with strong replay value. Audiences embraced the film and critics applauded it, particularly praising SRK and the supporting cast. The film was a box office triumph. Recently, veteran actor Annu Kapoor stirred controversy with his remarks about Chak De! India during an interview with ANI. He highlighted that Shah Rukh Khan's character in the film, Kabir Khan, was inspired by hockey coach Mir Ranjan Negi. Kapoor claimed that filmmakers intentionally altered the character to be Muslim to portray them positively and show religious harmony. Kapoor said, "Chak De! India ka jo main character hai woh asal mein hamare ek bahot bade coach Shri Negi Sahab ki life ke upar hai. Lekin India ke andar hai na...ki woh Musalman ko achha character batana hai... aur Pandit ka mazaak udana hai. Toh woh purani ek vyadhi hai, jisse Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb ke naam par ek label laga diya jaata hai." (The main character of Chak De! India is based on the famous coach Negi Sahab. But in India, they want to show a Muslim as having a good character and make fun of the Pandit (Hindu priest). It is an old thing, where they use the idea of 'Ganga-Jamuni' tehzeeb or Hindu-Muslim unity in order to to label it)." This remark of Kapoor sparked a heated debate online, with opinions divided. Some are bashing the veteran actor and on the other hand some are praising him. ‘Na Shakal Hai Na Surat Hai’: Annu Kapoor Reacts to Priyanka Chopra Refusing To Kiss Him in ‘7 Khoon Maaf’ (Watch Video).
