The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards, held at the Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, California, delivered some major wins. Liza Colón-Zayas made history by winning Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her portrayal of Tina Marrero in The Bear. With this achievement, she became the first Latina to win an Emmy Award. Her emotional acceptance speech quickly went viral across social media. In her speech, she thanked her husband, Dexter star David Zayas, saying, “Thank you to my husband, David Zayas. He told me to write a speech and I didn’t because I didn't think it would be possible. How could I have thought it would be possible to be in the presence of Meryl Streep and Carol Burnett and Janelle (James) and Sheryl Lee Ralph and Hannah (Einbinder)?” She concluded with an empowering message for fellow Latinas: “And to all the Latinas who are looking at me, keep believing and vote.
