With almost 90 mm of rain in a matter of 12 hours, Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, recorded its heaviest monsoon rainfall of the season.  The heavy rain started on Sunday evening and persisted into Monday morning, waterlogging several roads and generating traffic jams in several crucial areas of the city. Rainfall may persist through September 12, according to the meteorological department's forecast.
