The Delhi High Court is slated to hear a petition on April 29 seeking Prime Minister Narendra Modi's disqualification for allegedly soliciting votes in the name of Hindu and Sikh deities during election rallies. Reportedly, the petition filed by lawyer Anand S Jondhale, the petition calls for PM Modi's six-year disqualification under the Representation of Peoples Act and urges the Election Commission of India (ECI) to restrain him from exploiting religious sentiments for electoral gains. Stemming from PM Modi's speech in Uttar Pradesh on April 9, where he purportedly referenced religious figures while targeting political opponents, the petition contends that such rhetoric could fuel communal tensions and violate the Model Code of Conduct.
