‘No Such Officer Exists’: CBI Debunks Fake Letter Circulating on Social Media in Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case, Assures Investigation by Delhi Headquarters
The CBI debunked a fake letter circulating on social media that falsely claimed political manipulation in the Kolkata doctor murder case, assuring that the investigation is being properly handled by its Delhi headquarters.
Following the CBI's takeover of the rape and murder case involving a 31-year-old trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College, a fake letter has surfaced on social media. The letter, supposedly from Dr Akash Nag, falsely claiming to be a DIG and Joint Director of the CBI's Crime Branch in Kolkata, alleges manipulation in the investigation due to political pressure. The letter, shared widely on WhatsApp, claims the involvement of hospital doctors in the crime. However, on August 20, the CBI clarified via X (formerly Twitter) that the letter was fake, stating the case is being handled by the CBI Headquarters in Delhi and that "no such officer named Dr Akash Nag exists within the agency."
