This is not the first time President Biden has used the term “boy” when referring to African Americans, which has been criticized as a racial epithet. Earlier this year, he used the term when referring to Maryland’s first black governor, Wes Moore. During his presidential campaign, Biden also faced backlash for using the term in relation to his ability to work with segregationist senators.
