Afghanistan scripted history as they entered the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 semifinals with a victory over Bangladesh. The Rashid Khan-led side needed to win at all costs to qualify and they did so in what was a thrilling contest. After multiple rain interruptions, Afghanistan managed to get past Bangladesh by eight runs via the DLS method and the winning moment arrived when Naveen-ul-Haq trapped Mustafizur Rahman plumb in front of the stumps. Mustafizur did go for a DRS, but it was not able to save him at all, and ecstatic Afghanistan players ran around the ground as they celebrated the win. The players were also overcome with emotion and many of them broke out into tears as Afghanistan entered the semifinals of a T20 World Cup for the first time in history.
