The qualifiers for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 has commenced and the African sub-regional qualifier has started with a bizarre incident. The Gambian team provided a walkover to Rwandan team after arriving late following missing a flight. The game was awarded to Rwanda without a ball bowled. This is the first T20I match in history to be forfeited. Previously on three instances walkovers happened in ODI World Cup due to safety reasons against the host team. Today, Gambia missed their flight and arrived late against Rwanda in opening game of Africa qualifier-B.
This meant that this game was awarded to Rwanda without a ball bowled. First such game in T20Is.
