Gautam Gambhir delivered an emotional message for fans in Kolkata as he relinquished the role of Kolkata Knight Riders' mentor after being named the new head coach of the Indian cricket team. Gambhir was the top choice to replace Rahul Dravid for the role after the latter's stint ended following India's T20 World Cup 2024 title win in Barbados. Gambhir, who mentored KKR to the IPL 2024 title in May, addressed the Kolkata fans in a video where he delivered a speech, a part of which read, "Kolkata, we are a bond, we are a story, we are a team. Now the time has come when we have to write some bigger and bolder scripts, the script not in purple ink but in that blue, the treasured India blue."
