He demolished the Pakistan bowlers as he registered a record of being the fastest Sri Lankan to score a century in ICC World Cups beside his name. Although Sri Lankan Cricket board has confirmed Mendis had cramps after his innings and had to be taken to hospital. Dushan Hemantha replaced him on the field, while Sadeera Samarawickrama took over the wicketkeeping duties in the absence of Mendis.
